This Christmas holiday season there is something to entertain everyone at OPW heritage properties. From Christmas markets, to musical performances, from story-telling to seasonal flower arranging with the experts, we really have thought of everything.
Some of the country’s best known heritage sites are celebrating the festive season with a wonderful programme of events to suit all tastes. Dublin Castle is hosting its inaugural magical Christmas experience 'Christmas at the Castle' which runs from 12th to 22nd of December. Set in the heart of the nation’s capital, Christmas at the Castle, will have something for everyone, with a boutique open air Christmas Market, evening carol singing, a Neapolitan crib and complimentary evening access to the traditionally decorated State apartments among some of the festive offerings.
In the lush surroundings of Farmleigh there will be the traditional Christmas market, with storytelling for kids, Christmas carols and musical performers. This year there will also be a special concert with the Velvettes who will 'Croon for Christmas' on Wednesday the 18th and Thursday 19th December in the beautiful Farmleigh ballroom. This festive celebration of the classic era of Christmas songs will include firm favourites from Irving Berlin to Gershwin, Cole Porter to Elvis Presley. This show is the perfect festive event, guaranteed to send you off glowing in the warmth of a lost era in music. Christmas has never sounded so good!
This year the National Botanic Gardens is going Green with Eco Christmas Craft workshops for both Adults and Children as well as a Christmas Eco Craft Market on 14th & 15th December, all within the charming surroundings of these wonderful gardens. The Gardens will also be the setting for many musical events, demonstrations and festive walking tours of the Gardens.
Speaking about the festive period, Minister for the OPW and Flood Relief, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran said, "The OPW has a treasure trove of beautiful historic sites which make the perfect background for family days out this Christmas. We have a wonderful programme of activity for the Christmas holiday period and our staff and guides are looking forward to spreading the Christmas cheer."
