Harris welcomes final draft Feasibility Report for the Avoca River Flood Relief Scheme in Arklow

Mr. Simon Harris, TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works, today (5 September 2014) welcomed the final draft Feasibility Report for the Avoca River (Arklow Town) Flood Relief Scheme which was submitted by the consultants on the project to the Office of Public Works and Wicklow County Council.

Speaking today, Minister Harris said "My Office, the Office of Public Works, has been working in tandem with Arklow Town Council formerly and now Wicklow County Council on progressing a viable flood relief scheme for Arklow Town. I am delighted to note that a Final draft Feasibility Report has been submitted by the consultants on the project and it will now be considered by the Steering Group later this month."

The draft Feasibility Report and the revised proposals, will be considered by the Steering Group comprising the Office of Public Works, Wicklow County Council and the consultants on the project. A number of impacts of the proposed scheme on the infrastructure of the town such as the existing quay walls and bridge were assessed as part of the Feasibility Report.

Minister Harris commented "My Office continues to work closely with local authorities on all schemes and it is important that the public understand what is involved in the process. To this end, and as part of the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement, there will be a Public Information Day held in Arklow to outline the proposals arising from the Report and to invite feedback on these proposals. I would encourage as many people as possible to attend this Day when it is arranged as it will provide a useful opportunity for the public and project team alike."
