14-11-2013 World Premiere of Suantraí na hInise/The Island Lullaby in The Blasket Centre, Dún Chaoin, Co. Kerry on 17 November 2013
The Office of Public Works (OPW) is delighted to announce that the world premiere of Suantraí na hInise/The Island Lullaby will be performed in the Blasket Centre, Co. Kerry on 17 November 2013. This very special event commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Blasket Evacuation in 1953. It is composed by Colm Ó Foghlú, and will be performed by Niamh Ní Charra (Concertina), Noreen O’Donoghue (Irish Harp) & The Dublin String Ensemble.
Suantraí na hInise/The Island Lullaby is a unique and innovative music/theatre event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Blasket Evacuation and to celebrate the islands’ rich cultural legacy. Produced by Opus Eile, the event is being hosted by the OPW and is supported by Foras na Gaeilge. Proceeds from the ticket sales for the event will be donated to the Camphill community based in Dingle.
