Mr. Kevin Moran, T.D., Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW) and Flood Relief, today announced that a site has now been acquired by the OPW for the provision of a new Garda Station in Bailieborough, Co Cavan.

Minister Moran said, "I am delighted that the acquisition of the site for the new Bailieborough Garda Station has now been successfully concluded following the completion of the legal formalities. The site at the former National Irish Bank building on Main Street is the preferred site for the new Garda Station."

The proposed development at this location will include refurbishment of the existing building, which is a protected structure, and the construction of a new 4 storey extension to the rear of the existing building and will accommodate the New District Garda Headquarters serving the Bailieborough area.

The Minister went on to say, "The OPW will now progress to lodge Planning Permission (under Part 9 of the Planning and Development Regulations) for the proposed development. The planning process includes a six week public consultation on the plans. Much of the overall design work has already been completed and the detailed tender documentation preparation will now be expedited."
