Dunbeg Fort, Fahan, Dingle, Co. Kerry is currently CLOSED.
Following damage from recent severe weather events the site is extremely dangerous and members of the public are asked not to visit the monument for their own safety. The Office of Public Works (OPW) and the National Monuments Service (NMS) are currently assessing the damage.
Dunbeg Fort is a national monument in State guardianship. The cliff-edge site has suffered extensive erosion since it was first recorded in the early 19th century. It was extensively archaeologically excavated by Prof. T.B. Barry in 1977 (http://bit.ly/2B7PCSf) and in recent years archaeological work addressing the continued erosion of the site has been carried out.
