Statement of Strategy: 2017 - 2020
I very much welcome this Statement of Strategy which sets out the Office’s high-level goals for the next three years. I see it as an important milestone in the history of the OPW which provides a very clear pathway to the further development of the organisation in the immediate future. Since being appointed to serve as Minister of State, I have been struck by the range of responsibilities the Office of Public Works has and its reach into so many aspects of public policy. This is reflected in the Programme for Partnership Government which outlines numerous commitments that can only be successfully implemented through the OPW continuing to collaborate closely with other Departments, Offices and Agencies.
During the period of this Statement of Strategy, the OPW will complete the National Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management (CFRAM) Programme which will play an important role in flood mitigation in the future and will identify and enable the advancement of prioritised schemes for the provision of flood relief measures at community level.
I welcome, in particular, the overriding commitment in the mission statement to providing “effective, sustainable, responsive and innovative services to the public and to our clients, with competence, dedication, professionalism and integrity”. I have also noted that a number of challenging objectives have been set to underpin this commitment, which I fully endorse. I look forward to working collaboratively with the new Chairman and staff of the organisation in implementing this Strategy.
