PRESS RELEASE
Dr. Martin Mansergh, T.D., Minister of State with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works and the Arts, has announced and confirmed the opening arrangements that will apply to ‘Heritage Sites’ under the care of the O.P.W. and where a ‘guide service’ is in operation.
The Minister said, “Due to budgetary considerations the opening times at all O.P.W. Heritage sites nationwide have been reviewed. I am glad to say that despite the current economic climate we will be presenting all sites that have been open to the public in previous years over the length of the season and adapted to the demand for each site. I am satisfied that an effective formula has been devised that balances the Conservation, Presentation and Tourism requirements with the need for realistic economies to be made. Tourism, now more than ever, is a necessary and vital stimulus to both our national and local economy, and I have no doubt that we will continue to attract visitor numbers by the intrinsic quality of our sites and the high standards of their presentation”.
