MINISTER OF STATE DR. MARTIN MANSERGH ANNOUNCES DEFERMENT OF LEINSTER HOUSE CONSERVATION WORKS

Dr. Martin Mansergh, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Finance with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works today announced the deferment of the proposed conservation works due to be undertaken at Leinster house.

Minister Mansergh said, “earlier this year the Oireachtas Commission approved the undertaking of major works to address structural and services deficiencies in Leinster House. These works were to be carried out over a prolonged period and would have meant disruption to Dail business and the decanting of the Seanad to a Committee room for the period of the works. In view of current spending limits, it has been decided to defer the required conservation works until a more opportune time”.

The Minister concluded; “While it is unfortunate that these major conservation works cannot get underway as anticipated, my office will continue to oversee and manage the structural integrity of this most important building and ensure its continued protection”.
