MINISTER MARTIN MANSERGH T.D. OPENS THE ANNUAL “ART OF THE STATE” EXHIBITION IN WEXFORD V.E.C. ON 25 OCTOBER 2008.

Dr. Martin Mansergh, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Finance with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works officially opened the Art of the State exhibition in Wexford VEC on Saturday 25th October 2008 at 5.30pm.

Speaking at the launch the Minister said “the Office of Public Works and the Department of Finance and Personnel of Northern Ireland bring our jointly organised exhibition In The Mind's Eye to the College, and I would like to congratulate all the staff involved in both organisations.   This North – South Art of the State cultural initiative has been an annual one since 1997.  Each year, as many of you who are regular visitors to the annual exhibition in the College will know, we tour the exhibition to a number of venues North and South.   Already this year, it has visited the elegant refurbished Grand Opera House in Belfast, the Millennium Court Arts Centre where I opened it in August in Portadown, and University Hospital, Galway.

The Minister continued, “I must pay tribute to the College for its interest and initiative in opening its doors to art lovers during the Opera Festival.  In particular, I wish to single out the College Principal, Eddie O'Reilly for his indefatigable efforts over the years for the visual arts, and his commitment to building a collection of Irish art for the College”.

The exhibition remains in Wexford VEC until Saturday 1st November.
