Bike Week 2010 will reach its finale with "Pedal in the Park" on Sunday June 20th at the Papal Cross, Phoenix Park, Dublin.
Margaret Gormley, Park Superintendent in the Office of Public Works, who are hosting the event in the Park, said that "Pedal in the Park is a celebration of cycling for all" and "We are thrilled to be building on the success of the 2009 event where over 3,000 people enjoyed car free cycling in Europe's largest enclosed park".
Once again in 2010, over 1000 acres of The Phoenix Park will be closed to car traffic allowing people to enjoy cycling in a safe and fun environment. Normal car traffic will be accommodated on alternative routes through the Park.
Ms Gormley continued "As June 20th is Fathers Day we encourage Dads and Mums and children to come to the event dressed in their county colours and to make the Bike Week finale a real family occasion".
There will be a broad range of entertainment and activities taking place including; live music from the Garda band and other acts, BMX jump displays, bike polo, drumming workshops, bicycle entertainers, balloon modellers and face painters as well as Dublin bike shops showcasing the latest in cycling equipment and giving advice. Prizes and Free Gifts will also be distributed throughout the day.
You are encouraged to bring a picnic, and food and drink will be available in the Park.
The closing event of Bike Week 2010 will finish with a massive colourful parade of bicycles along a 6km route around The Park. This will be led out by the Garda Band and will include representatives from all 32 counties in county colours and sporting each county’s flag. It will also include Garda Bikes, An Post Bikes, Dublin City Bikes, vintage bikes, Raleigh chopper bikes and others. You are encouraged to come along, bring your bikes and join in the parade in your county colours to make the finale of Bike week a truly 32 County affair.
As a special once off for this occasion Dublin Zoo are offering half price admission after 4pm for adults and kids go free for all people registered at the Event and Parade. The Zoo will remain open till 8pm on the day.

Bike Week is a cross-community initiative involving State and semi-State organisations involved in travel, health, heritage, sports, cycling campaigns, the cycling industry and the Department For Regional Development Northen Ireland. The initiative is led by the Department of Transport, under the umbrella of the Smarter Travel policy.
