14-10-2011 Minister Hayes Announces additional €250,000 Funding for Flood Works at the Dodder Estuary in Dublin City

Friday 14th October 2011

PRESS RELEASE

Brian Hayes TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW), has announced an additional allocation of €250,000 under the OPW’s Minor Flood Mitigation Works Scheme to Dublin City Council for flood relief works to be carried out at the Dodder Estuary, Dublin City.

Minister Hayes said: "I am pleased to announce that further funding of €250,000 is to be allocated to Dublin City Council towards the overall cost of restoring the quay wall at Fitzwillam Quay, Dodder Estuary, Dublin 4, which is in addition to the €150,000 allocated in March of this year.  This collapse resulted in a reduction in flood defence levels for this area and the overall allocation of €400,000 will assist in having it repaired for the peace of mind of the residents in the area".

"The provision of additional funding for minor flood mitigation works complements a range of other ongoing OPW programmes, including carrying out major flood relief schemes, and flood studies, that are aimed at managing national flood risk in a proactive and comprehensive way into the future", the Minister stated.

The Minister concluded: "It is important to remember that it is still open to Local Authorities to submit further applications for funding and all applications that meet the relevant eligibility criteria will be considered having regard to the overall resources available".
